PSAT / SAT & Testing
(Adapted from College Counseling Sourcebook)
PSAT/NMSQT: Test in preparation for the SAT
- Analysis of critical reading, math and writing skills
- Results are received by schools in early December*scores NOT sent to colleges
- Should be taken in junior year(to qualify for National Merit Scholarship), also beneficial as a sophomore & for younger students (provides info. to help improve academic skills needed to succeed in college).
- Can be taken no more than once a year(no limit on how many years)
- Students can see right & wrong answers and refer to the original test booklet for practice
- With their Score Report, students receive a personalized statement of skills to improve, and can also receive online access to 'My College Quick Start' a free personalized college/career planning kit (with access until h.s. graduation).
- The score report also shows whether students meet entry requirements for National Merit Scholarship
To prepare for the PSAT Test:
- The Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT contains useful information such as a guide and practice test (students can best prepare by taking rigorous courses).
The SAT :
*For access to the SAT Online Score Report (which consists of SAT scores, a printable copy of the actual
essay response and useful information about scores) students can sign into collegeboard.com and go to My SAT STUDY Plan.* *Students are encouraged to register for the SAT/PSAT Subject Tests online at www.collegeboard.com (paper forms are also sent to all high schools & are received approx. Five weeks after test is administered-sent to the student & h.s. if the right school code was entered).*
