10 (only 10 were willing to complete the survey, and did so).

Pre-Question: Would you say that counseling has an effect on your school/academic performance?
Post-Question: Would you say that the counseling you received helped your GPA/personal and social development? |
6 of the 10 students’ GPA increased. The others either maintained the same GPA (80% GPA) or dropped somewhat, but kept a high GPA (90% GPA).
|
The various types of counseling the students received had a positive effect on their academic performance (as per their statement and GPA). It also had an effect on their personal/social development, helping them to be heard, understood, etc., as per the survey responses.

Proposal:
My proposal and action plans for this semester are to provide the students (10-15 students that I've conducted individual counseling sessions with),with personal/social and college advisement as well as career counseling to close the achievement gap and encourage attainment of academic goals. By monitoring their progress and providing college readiness and application intervention, I will be addressing both the achievement and attainment gaps which exist. According to my site supervisor, these interventions are evident in that the students might not have considered applying or attending college otherwise. In addition, I will be providing personal/social intervention to these teens in group counseling(covering topics such as practicing safe sex, preventing pregnancy, goal setting=college/career for an 18,19 & 20 year old audience). This includes college readiness/application, and/or career counseling to help prepare them for the future.
|
These surveys illustrate that 6 of the 10 students grades improved. One maintained the same GPA (80%) & the other dropped, but still maintained a high GPA (90%). The results indicated that the counseling received was in fact helpful to them and that overall, it had a positive effect on their academic performance as well as on their personal/social development.
